Dr. Palavecino's Peronsal Notes/Statement: 

Dr. Palavecino initiated her teaching career in Higher Education in 1985. As an educator and researcher, she published original papers in Spanish, co-authored a book about local diversity, and mentored BS students, among many other academic and educational activities. She worked as a tenured Assistant Professor at the National University of Salta (Argentina) when she and her family moved to the US in 2004. She became an Adjunct faculty at AVC in 2006 and a tenured, full-time faculty in 2023.

Currently, her research interest is focused on studying Joshua trees and California native bees. She has been a Co-Principal Investigator of an NSF Incubator Grant (2021-2022), collaborating with a colleague from COC and other Institutions. Besides her regular teaching duties, Dr. Palavecino has been actively working on engaging and tutoring students in undergraduate research.

On a personal note, Dr. Palavecino is married to a Geologist who works for a Mining Company in southern California. They have two sons, Alvaro, and Rodrigo, both former AVC students who, after transferring, graduated as a Doctor in Optometry and a Certified Accountant, respectively. Dr. Palavecino enjoys being with her family, visiting new places, researching, painting, and supporting California nature.
